המפהתון חוזר!

מפהתון בעברית 2025 – אירוע המיפוי של המחלקה לגיאוגרפיה באוניברסיטה העברית!
מה זה מפהתון? מסיבת מיפוי (כן, יהיו גם בירות ופיצות) בה נפגש כולנו ביחד להוסיף נתונים למפת OpenStreetMap בכדי לסייע לפרויקט מיפוי הומניטרי.
מה זה OpenStreetMap? הויקיפדיה של המפות, או Google Maps שמבוסס על אנשים: פרויקט בו כל אחת ואחד יכולים להוסיף מידע למפה (לשרטט כבישים, מבנים וכל דבר אחר) ולהוריד אותו בצורה חופשית. המידע שנאסף נמצא בשימוש נרחב ע"י פרטים, חוקרים, ארגונים הומניטריים, סוכנויות ממשלתיות ובינלאומיות וגם חברות היי טק, כולל חברות ענק דוגמת פייסבוק ומיקרוסופט.
מה נמפה במפהתון? השנה אנחנו נמפה מבנים בערים נבחרות בגליל.
למה דווקא שם ולמה זה תורם? רשת הכבישים בישראל ממופה באיכות גבוהה בOpenStreetMap. עם זאת, בישובים רבים המבנים אינם ממופים היטב או כלל – הדבר בולט בייחוד בישובים כפריים ו/או בישובי החברה הערבית בישראל. הדבר תואם להטיות ידועות בנתוני OpenStreetMap שחוזרות בחלקים שונים בעולם. כיוון שנתונים ממקורות אחרים (ממשלתיים ומסחריים) אינם זמינים בצורה חופשית לשימוש ציבורי, גופים וארגונים רבים נסמכים על הנתונים בOpenStreetMap – כאשר הנתונים מוטים, הדבר פוגע בדיוק של התוצאות שלהם ובאפקטיביות של ההחלטות שהם מקבלים.
איך זה עובד? במסגרת האירוע, כל אחת ואחד מכם ת.ייצור חשבון בOpenStreetMap ות.יקבל אזור מוגדר בגליל לעבוד בו. אתם תבחנו צילום אוויר של האזור, תזהו היכן יש מבנים ותציירו אותם על גבי המפה (יש פרסים למי שת.יצטיין במיפוי!)
למי האירוע מיועד? לכלל תלמידי האוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים.
אין כל צורך בידע מוקדם! (הדרכה תינתן במקום, נדרש רק רצון לתרום לקהילה).
במה זוכים? תהילת עולם! הנתונים יהיו נגישים לכולם. בנוסף, בין המשתתפים יוגרלו פרסים.

The HUJI Mapathon 2025- A mapping event hosted by the Department of Geography!
What is a Mapathon? A Mapathon is a collective mapping event and an excuse for a mapping party (pizza and beer on us)! We will be adding data to OSM (Open Street Map) and assisting an international humanitarian project
What is Open Street Map? OSM is a global, collective mapping initiative- the Wikipedia of maps. Anyone can contribute by adding attributes (roads, buildings etc) to the maps. The updated maps are open source and can be accessed by anyone: from individuals and researchers through to NGO's, government agencies and giant corporations such as Facebook and Google
What will we map at the HUJI Mapathon? We’ll be mapping buildings in selected towns in the Galilee
Why this region specifically and what are we contributing? The road network in Israel is well-mapped on OpenStreetMap. However, in many towns, buildings are poorly mapped—or not mapped at all—especially in rural areas and/or towns in the Arab sector in Israel. This reflects known biases in OpenStreetMap data found in various parts of the world. Since data from other sources (governmental or commercial) is not freely available for public use, many organizations rely on OpenStreetMap. When its data is biased, it undermines the accuracy of their results and the effectiveness of the decisions they make
How does the HUJI Mapathon work? Each participant opens an OSM account and will receive an area for mapping. You will receive aerial photographs of your work area and identify buildings and other features which you will then add to the map. There will be prizes for the best mappers
Who is the event for? all students of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem are invited
No need for prior knowledge! (Training will be provided on the spot, only a desire to contribute to the community is required)
What do you win? World fame! The data will be accessible to everyone. In addition, prizes will be drawn among the participants
