GLOCOPH Israel 2009
At the request of The Global Continental
Paleohydrology (GLOCOPH) we are organizing the GLOCOPH Israel
2009 workshop under the Terrestrial Processes (TERPRO)
Commission of the International Quaternary Association (INQUA).
The conveners of the workshop, Yehouda Enzel, Noam Greenbaum and
Tamir Grodek, together with our field guides and our respective
institutions, are looking forward to seeing you at the workshop
and visiting together the remarkable field research sites,
geologic settings, and landscapes. Our promise: We will draw on
our long experience with visitors to these areas to ensure that
you have a great professional – and touristic – experience.
The workshop and field trip
will extend from the evening of 25th October through 3rd November, 2009.
It will comprise:
(a)
Two days of oral presentations –
The first day (26 Oct) is organized by Haifa University's Geography
Department and will be held on campus atop Mt. Carmel; it will include
the only poster session. The second day of oral presentations (29 Oct)
will take place at the Institute of Earth Sciences, Givat Ram campus of
the Hebrew University of Jerusalem; and
(b)
A seven-day intensive field trip,
with two days in northern Israel and five days along the western Dead
Sea and in the northeastern Negev Desert.
The general workshop program, including dates, rates and the
main subjects of the field trip are presented below. Updates will appear
regularly at
http://geography.huji.ac.il/GLOCOPH/index.htm ;
if you have problem with this site please contact Tamir Grodek,
t.grodek@gmail.com.
The oral presentations and posters will be based on
contributions by the participants. Evening lectures by top local
scientists on subjects pertaining to the workshop will provide the wider
context.
The field trip will include visits to research sites in
diverse environments presenting various aspects of fluvial and
lacustrine paleohydrology, paleoclimatology, geomorphology, and related
research fields. Most of these sites are the bases of scientific
publications in top scientific publications (we will provide a reading
list before the meeting). A general map of the field trip route is
attached. Obviously, we will avoid areas of security problems. The field
trip is thus planned in the safe areas of the eastern Galilee, the Sea
of Galilee, the Dead Sea, and the northeastern Negev regions.
We offer two options for participation:
Option 1: (Highly recommended): 10 days, 9 nights
(25/10-3/11/09) based on the attached outline.
Option 2: 7 days, 6 nights (28/10-3/11/09; arrival
straight to Jerusalem) including the one oral presentations day in
Jerusalem and the Dead Sea field trip.
Lodging
Lodging is in 3-4-star hotels, All meals are
included, whether at the hotels or restaurants. On the field trip, light
(packed) lunches will be provided or we will eat in simple restaurants.
